Two chips, not one.
Every other hearing aid on this site reduces noise. Sphere does something different: a second chip runs a deep neural network that pulls speech out of the noise and rebuilds it, rather than just turning the background down. That is why it needs its own silicon.
The main processor, shared with the standard Infinio Ultra R. Runs AutoSense OS 7.0, which Phonak say is 24% more accurate at recognising what kind of situation you are in than the previous version.
A second processor, present only in Sphere models, doing nothing but real-time speech separation. Phonak call it the world's first dedicated AI chip for separating speech from noise in every direction.
Sphere i90 or i70?
There is no Sphere i50 or i30. Sphere exists only at the top two levels, and the difference is narrower than usual: same chip, same channels, but the AI is capped on the i70.
If you are buying Sphere for the AI, this is the coherent choice. Phonak's own test figures were measured at full strength, which only the i90 runs.

Receiver-in-canal only, rechargeable only, in eight colours. Up to 56 hours on a charge with the AI off, but only around 10 to 11 hours with the speech clarity feature running continuously, so it is worth being realistic about that. No telecoil version.
It is physically larger than the standard Infinio Ultra R, because of the second chip. Worth seeing one before you decide.
Bluetooth 5.3, up to eight paired devices and two connected at once. RogerDirect is built in, which is genuinely useful in meetings and lecture theatres.
The hardware is described as Auracast-ready, but broadcast audio is not active yet and needs a future firmware update. We will not tell you it works today.

It does nothing except separate speech from background noise, in real time, using a trained AI model. Because it is a dedicated chip rather than a share of the main processor, it can do far more work. If restaurants and groups are your problem, this is the feature that addresses it directly.
The same hardware. i90 gives you the fullest version of the speech separation and the most adjustment for us to work with. i70 is a step down in how hard that system runs. If noisy places are your main difficulty, i90 is usually worth it. If they are not, i70 will do.
It uses more power than a standard hearing aid, which is why Phonak built it around a larger rechargeable cell. You still get a full day, but streaming heavily all day will shorten it. We will give you a realistic figure for how you actually live rather than the headline number.
EON does the same job in a smaller, lighter shell with a longer battery. Infinio Ultra Sphere remains an excellent hearing aid and may well be better value while both are available. We will compare them honestly against your hearing test.
