The AI is only in one version.

This is the single most important thing to know about Vivia, and it is the thing most easily missed. The AI noise chip, the whole reason Vivia exists, is fitted only to the rechargeable Vivia 9. Vivia 7, Vivia 5, and even the battery-powered Vivia 9 do not have it. We would rather tell you this plainly than let you pay flagship money for a device without the flagship feature.

Which Vivia suits you?

The higher the level, the better it copes with noise and the more finely we can tune it. We recommend a level after your hearing test, based on your results and how you live.

Being straight with you

Try it for yourself before you decide.

ReSound market Vivia hard on hearing in noise, and their own figures are impressive. Independent lab testing was less dramatic on speech in noise, though it scored well for speech in quiet and highly overall. We are not telling you not to buy it. We are telling you not to buy it on the strength of the noise claim alone, and to try it in the room first. That is what the demo is for.

Styles and battery

Receiver-in-ear only, there is no Vivia behind-the-ear and no custom in-the-ear. The rechargeable version gives up to 30 hours, or about 20 with heavy streaming or the AI running. Battery versions last 6 to 14 days, and the size 13 version includes a telecoil. Ten colours, IP68.

Connectivity

Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast, both working today. ReSound were first to build an Auracast finder into the app itself, which makes picking up a broadcast in a venue considerably easier. Made for iPhone with hands-free calls, and Android streaming.

The noise programme is manual

The AI focus sits inside a Hear in Noise programme you select yourself, it does not switch on automatically. It also works best on speech in front of you, less so from the sides or behind. Worth knowing what you are actually getting.

Profound loss?

Vivia does not make a power behind-the-ear. For profound loss you need ReSound Enzo or a Nexia Power BTE, and we will say so.

Frequently asked questions.

This matters and it is not always made clear. The dedicated AI processing is in the top level. The lower levels are still very good hearing aids on the same platform, but they do not have that second chip working on speech in noise. We will be straight with you about which you are buying.

ReSound describe it as the world's smallest rechargeable AI hearing aid, and it is genuinely very small for what it does. Whether it is the smallest you could wear depends on your hearing loss, because more power needs more size.

Auracast broadcasts sound directly to hearing aids in public venues, and it is starting to appear in theatres, stations and airports. Vivia supports it. It is a real benefit where it exists, though the network is still being built out.

Up to around 30 hours on a charge, which is genuinely a full day plus a margin. Heavy streaming will reduce that.
