Four levels, one hearing aid

Which Ultra R suits you?

All four are the same physical hearing aid. The higher the level, the better it copes with noise and the more finely we can tune it. If you spend time in pubs, restaurants or groups, i70 is the floor.

Ultra R i90
Broad difficulty, not just noise

Everything the platform can do short of the AI chip. The only level that also lifts soft and distant speech in quiet rooms.

  • Strongest noise handling
  • Lifts soft and distant speech
  • Most precise fitting

Ultra R i70
Best value for most people

Same fine tuning as i90 and both key noise features. For most people the gap to i90 is small.

  • Strong noise handling
  • Same precise fitting as i90
  • Speech in loud noise programme

Ultra R i50
A quieter life

A real step down, not a marketing one. Suits home, one-to-one, television and small groups. It will struggle in a busy pub.

  • Moderate noise handling
  • Good fitting precision
  • Motion sensor kept

Ultra R i30
Mainly quiet surroundings

Genuinely entry-level. Right for a firm budget, or a first-time user with mild loss who mostly wants amplification and streaming.

  • Light noise handling
  • Basic fitting precision
  • Streaming and Roger still included

The practical detail

Styles, battery and connectivity.

Style and battery

Receiver-in-canal, rechargeable, up to 31 hours on a charge. Around three and a half hours for a full charge, with a 15-minute quick top-up available. New wax protection replaces the old wax filters. Water and dust rated IP68.

No telecoil, no disposable batteries

If you need either, we will point you at a hearing aid that offers them. Tell us at your hearing test and we will show you the options we fit.

Connectivity

Bluetooth 5.3, eight paired devices, two connected at once, and RogerDirect built in at every level. Phonak claim roughly double the streaming distance of the previous generation.

Auracast

Hardware-ready but not switched on yet. It needs a future firmware update, and we will not sell it to you as working today.

Frequently asked questions.

Ultra R does not have the second, dedicated speech separation chip. Everything else is very similar. If your difficulty is mostly everyday listening rather than genuinely noisy environments, Ultra R gives you most of the benefit for less money.

Identical hearing aids with different amounts of processing switched on. The higher the number, the more the hearing aid does in noise and the more finely we can tune it. i30 is the entry point and still a real improvement over no hearing aid or a very old one.

Roger is a separate microphone you put on a table or give to a speaker, and it sends their voice straight to your hearing aids. It is the single most effective thing available for meetings, lectures and large restaurant tables. Most people do not need it. If you do, it is transformative.

Yes. Phonak has supported Bluetooth calls from both iPhone and Android for longer than most, including hands-free calling where the hearing aid is the microphone as well as the speaker.
